Its been seven years & counting since i started to teach scuba here in Sosua Bay, Dominican Republic and you know what, i have no intention of going anywhere else to do this. In my truthful opinion i think this is a wonderful place is to learn to dive. We have no tide change, minimal current, an abundance of marine life & the dive sites are a matter of minutes away by boat. We dive year round,the water is warm & the visibility can just be incredible..
I have seen a couple of posts on social media making derogatory statements about the diving here in the Dominican Republic and i ask myself, am i missing something. If you come here expecting to see schools of bull sharks and manta rays then for sure you are 
going to leave disappointed. If you come expecting this place to look like Thailand then guess what your in the wrong ocean. What we do have however is nice easy pretty diving right on our doorstep, literally just off the beach, minutes away by boat. I get the fact that the DR is not world renowned for its diving but believe me its pretty damn good. They were all taken right here in the beautiful Sosua Bay and personally i think the pictures speak for themselves.
The north coast of the Dominican Republic is just a short hop for most east coasters or just a few hours from Canada. Sosua & Cabarete have a huge range of restaurants, bars and amenities. There is a large expat community and English is widely spoken. It is safe here, well certainly safer than most places in the real world & i feel safer here than my home city in the UK. You are not caged into an all inclusive & contrary to what the tour operators tell you the locals do not eat people, they are actually really friendly. Personally i love it & more importantly i love teaching scuba diving here.
So basically, here is what i am trying to tell you, the north coast of the Dominican Republic is very accessible for the majority of you. It is cheaper here than where you come from and we have a great range of amenities. So if your looking to learn to scuba dive then Superior Dive Sosua is the place to do it.
