Superior Dives Sosua in conjunction with a small number of other local dive centers are working together with the Fundacion Ecologica Magua to enhance & protect the marine life here in the Sosua Bay Marine Park. Using the unique skill set of the scuba diving community we are working on coral restoration projects & giving our support to protect Sosua Bay from over fishing. Superior Dive Sosua is dedicated to preserving & enhancing our little slice of paradise here in Sosua Bay, Dominican Republic. Through hard work, education & dedication we want to help create a marine sanctuary that is abundant in fish & corals for future generations to enjoy. After all what could be of more benefit to a small tourist town such as Sosua than a thriving natural marine park. The scuba diving here is incredible & the waters are warm & crystal clear. The dive sites are just minutes boat ride away from Sosua Beach & we have minimal current or tide changes. We want to make Sosua Bay a thriving marine sanctuary a scuba diving & snorkeling paradise for everyone to enjoy. We want you, our divers, to be involved in our projects whether that’s our monthly dive against debris ocean clean up in association with Project AWARE & the #AdoptaDiveSite initiative or our coral restoration projects. Come & learn how us as Scuba Divers can make a difference.
‘The Fundacion Ecologica Maguá (FEM) is a non-profit private organization, created in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, on December 1st, 2017. It was founded by a mixed group of entrepreneurs and academics with the intention of developing activities and projects that favors the conservation of the environment and the natural resources of Hispaniola (Haiti + Dominican Republic), specially trough the instruments of education, research, community engagement and integration, and Agricultural extension. At the beginning the Foundation was focused on the conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems, however, because of their influence on coastal habitats, terrestrial ecosystems were also included in several proposals, especially addressing issues such as cleansing-sanitation, water basin management and biodiversity conservation. The first steps of FEM took place in 2017 when funds and resources were channelized to work with the local fishermen of Sosua, achieving their participation in mangrove restoration and coral farming projects, and their commitment for habitat surveillance and protection actions. Parallel to this, efforts were made in order to interact, support and work with other environmental organizations, and in the early 2018 some collaboration schemes were established with organizations from Boca Chica and Bavaro. Currently, the foundation is looking for sponsorship in order to consolidate the current projects and expand its reach.’
